While Universal created its icons of horror during the era of black-and-white film, the peak of horror movies in the '80s gave us new icons that to this day live on in popular culture.
Of course, the first golden age of horror began in the early 1920s during the silent film era, and lasted all the way into the 1940s, before the genre became too diluted for audiences to keep up with.
