In Cuba, a popular dance known as Casino was marketed abroad as Cuban-style salsa or Salsa Cubana to distinguish it from other salsa styles when the name was popularized in the 1970s. Originally meaning a defence-post, it was more generally employed to describe a small country house or lodge in a park. In the 18th century it could also describe a dancing salon. In modern usage it is normally used to designate a room or building in which gambling takes place. |
