Aviator sunglasses are a style of sunglasses that was developed by a group of American firms. The original Bausch & Lomb design is now commercially marketed as Ray-Ban Aviators, although other manufacturers also produce aviator-style sunglasses.
But why are they called aviators? The answer actually lies in their history. Aviator sunglasses were originally designed for pilots, who needed a pair of sunglasses that would protect their eyes from the harsh glare of the sun while they were flying. These sunglasses were first designed for pilots in the early 1900s.
